Permits for overseas nationals
If you work in Switzerland or stay in Switzerland for more than three months, you need a permit. Permits are issued by the Amt für Migration und Integration (Office for Migration and Integration).

Permit extension
Is your foreign national identity card expiring soon? Please bring the following documents to the Stadtbüro (City Office) in person:
Residence permit B or permanent residence permit C
- Filled out and signed Notice of Expiry
- Valid passport/identity card
- Foreign national identity card
Permit for short-term resident L
- Employment contract
- Valid passport/identity card
- Foreign national identity card
Permit F (provisionally admitted foreigners) / Permit N (permit for asylum seekers)
- Filled out and signed Notice of Expiry
- Foreign national identity card
Status S
- Filled out and signed Notice of Expiry
- Valid passport/identity card (if available)
- Foreign national identity card
Cross-border commuter permit G

Your new foreign national identity card and the invoice will be sent to you by post as soon as possible .
Fee waiver
To waive the fees for your new foreign national identity card, you can request a confirmation of social assistance benefits from Regionaler Sozialdienst Baden (Regional Social Service Baden). Submit this confirmation together with the Notice of Expiry. Please show the letter from Regional Social Service to the personnel in the City Office.
